I can answer a few questions here that have come up:

Will there be day players this year?

We are stalling on the final decision here for a little bit but the general consensus was that day players had a difficult time integrating into the game last year and that all in all we are probably better off not adding that complication. Given that we are pretty much 100% sure that the event will sell out we will be better served not having additional logistical issues to manage.

How long is the event?

The event is 9 days long. There is no 3 2 1 go go go start time for combat. At some point in the first few days combat operations commence. There is a period of buildup that goes on where troops get out, patrol the area, set forward op posts, run their guard shifts and generally get into the swing of things before the event actually goes hot. This adds a very great deal more to the event than you probably realize.

Can I attend for a shorter period of time?

Yes, you can attend for whatever period of time you are able to commit to however the price remains the same regardless of the period of time you are attending. Additionally, sign up starts much earlier for full term troops so there may or may not be many slots left when we open up part time sign ups.

Are there border guards this year?

No, the lay of the land we are playing on (actually a 2 hours south of the last playing field) is not as conducive to having manned border posts. This time around the East and West Germans will be acting as separate line infantry units responsible for their own portions of the field. They will have their own missions and objectives and will work in conjunction with the main force units to achieve their goals. Yes, the Germans will be eating German rations this year. Yes, being surrounded will likely mean you cannot get to your food.

Is the EB food mostly intended to manufacture low cost housing for the elderly?

No, not really. It is actually pretty good stuff and better in most ways than the US MRE meals most of the NATO guys eat and certainly better than T-ration deserts… hard tack, (bomb proof biscuits) is an acquired taste but once you get used to it, you will find all other crackers on the earth to be measly and pointless. Fish paste I assume was the smoked Sprat pate. I honestly cannot say that I care for that one but most of the rest of the canned stuff was actually pretty good. Captured East Bloc rations were actually pretty popular with NATO troops, in particular the instant breakfast kasha. The East Bloc A-ration meals (meals prepared in the mess hall) are true to Soviet era norms and are generally heavy hearty stew type meals with lots of potatoes, kasha, and in the case of Borsch beets. A-ration meals were universally popular with the East Bloc troops. Russian food really hits the spot on a cool late winter evening in the field.

Do we take prisoners?

Yes, and we do interrogate them. We do not pull fingernails or water board anyone but expect to be questioned a bit if captured. After you are questioned, you are detained for a period of time as a POW before you are returned back to you respective side. During that time, you are for all intents and purposes treated as a guest in the “enemies” camp. You are free to go look things over and see how every thing is run on the other side. If meals are being served, you can count on a hot meal, you can talk to the other sides guys and see what sort of experience the other side of the event is. You are ABSOLUTELY not allowed to gather intel or escape etc. While you are a POW you are basically out of “the game” for that span of time. Lots of effort goes into both sides of the event and it would be a shame if guys did not get a chance to see both sides of it. We use POWS basically to offer a sight seeing peek into the life of an enemy soldier.

Isn’t East Bloc gear expensive?

Not really, look over the gear requirements on the site, you will see that for the most part the East Bloc gear can be had fairly cheap particularly if you look at Czech or East German gear.

Still looking for Brit gear…

Hold that thought, Wedge is concocting a list of what we can get wholesale and I think you will be all sorts of flush with stuff on the dirt cheap including tents. Once I have solid info and numbers I’ll get with you guys on it.

Matt was talking about you guys wanting a larger tent. These really are a good way to go and this one is local. Poles and stakes are a snap to make.
