AEG Suggestions...

Postby Shadow on Thu Feb 19, 2009 1:20 pm

Looking to get into airsoft and play with your group. Probably be taking more of an assault type role, and I'm trying to get something similar to what i've already got experience using. So.. i'm looking at M4/M16 style rifles. Right now, i'm kind of narrowed down to these two.. i'd appreciate suggestions, and if you know anything else that would work well, i'm open to suggestions. My big things are..

1. Quality
2. Reliability
3. Metal Body
4. RIS

That said.. here's two i'm currently looking at. These are in the higher end as to what i'm willing to spend.. I know next to nothing about this stuff, so I would prefer a package that includes a battery/charger/ect..so i'm not buying stuff that won't work with my rifle and learning the hard way. Thanks!

Eh, I'm not really thrilled about either of those options. But, if I had to make a choice, it would have to be the G&G.

I would like to encourage you to take a look at ICS, G&P and both the "Pro-Line" and "Sportline" series of Classic Army.

And about the battery, the ones that come with guns are usually not of the highest quality. Your best bet would be to get the gun you want, then buy the battery you want separately.

I was looking at this one from ICS. My problem with the batteries is that, when I look, it seems like there are just hundreds of choices.

Well, then. Seeking advice from those who have knowledge of these things would probably help.
Look for packs that are "high output" 20amps or more, and made for Airsoft or R/C Cars.
Intellect, Sony, Gold Peak (GP) are all good brands. Nimh is good, NiCad not so good.

As far as Mini batteries go, look at these

How about these two? An ICS that looks like it has everything i'd need but a charger, and this G&P Defender, which i'd need a few things. Namely.. from what I read, the battery that's used with the defender has a special type of connector that normal chargers won't work with, or something?

The ICS should be fine, although the G&P will have better rate of fire and fps out of the box. The ICS would need a little work to get it to the same level as the G&P. The G&P will have nicer outer bits, but the ICS has a better hopup, and is easier to maintain/upgrade due to the 2 piece gearbox.

The G&P uses what they call a "T Connector" aka Deans Connector. They are popular in the RC car world and I know of 2 places here in OKC that carry them. Any good charger will work.

I have a similar ICS, and JJ has that exact G&P, so come out to a game and have a look. Compare the two.

After owning both an ICS and 2 G&P's I would say the ICS is more beginner friendly. The connector is different than the standard tamiya plugs. But there easily found and most online sites (especially ones that carry G&Ps) are more than willing to make you up an adapter. Also once you get the Defender shipped and buy a battery you're out about $450 and that's a lot of coin. I would also suggest just renting a gun and come out to Harrah and see what it's all about.

I would suggest

or for cheaper alternatives

Just keep an eye on the online classifieds. www.airsoftforum.com is one of my favorites.

Great place for batteries: batteryjunction.com

As far as AEGs go, it's more or less opinion.

Very true. You ask 100 people and you'll get 100 different answers. My two most troublesome guns were a VFC and a Classic Army which are two very highly regarded companies.

Also all-battery.com has done me really well also.

Go with the Echo 1 Vector Arms MP5s if you're going to spend that much money. I wouldn't even waste my time with those Aftermath guns... they're literally rebranded rebrander guns. For the price of one of those, you could very easily pick up something a lot better on Airsoft GI.

I also wouldn't recommend anything other than Airsoft GI for airsoft shopping. I occasionally use Kapowwe, but that's only because their store in Texas is about a 20 minute drive from my house.
